Jeep Compass Headlight Bulb: Check the Build Date
The Jeep Compass headlight bulb seems like it should be a five-minute job. Sometimes it is. But the part number can change mid-model-year, and that's how I made my rookie mistake.
I ordered a set for a 2020 Compass by model year only. The tech opened the box, looked at the connector, and just shook his head. The bulb was wrong. So glad I checked the build date before reordering the whole lot. If I remember correctly, the build date mattered more than the year on that one. Don't quote me on the exact cutoff, but quote me on this: look up the vehicle's build date or VIN before buying a Jeep Compass headlight bulb.

How to Test a Radiator Fan
Here's how to test a radiator fan in about ten minutes, and it doesn't require a fancy scan tool.
- With the engine off and the key out, unplug the fan connector.
- Use a fused jumper wire to power the fan motor directly from the battery. Another jumper to ground.
- If the fan spins, the motor is fine. If it doesn't, check the connector terminals first. Corrosion and backed-out terminals are common.
- If the motor is fine, test the relay, fuse, temperature sensor, and fan control module.
I once watched our tech spend an hour chasing a fan that only worked when the A/C was on. The surprise wasn't the fan motor. It was a terminal in the connector that had backed out, killing the low-speed signal. A new fan wouldn't have fixed it. That diagnostic habit is why I don't let our parts ordering jump straight to a replacement.
It sounds kinda basic, but whenever someone asks how to test a radiator fan, I tell them to start at the connector, not the scanner. The scanner can command the fan, but it won't tell you if the pin is making contact. This is one of those cases where the old-school approach is still the best.
