Is KYB a good brand for struts?

Short answer: yes, for most passenger vehicles. KYB is a Japanese manufacturer that has supplied OE suspension components to major carmakers for decades. That's meaningful because OE suppliers need to pass stricter dimensional, durability, and surface finish checks than aftermarket-only brands.

From a quality-control view, KYB shocks and struts are consistent. That consistency matters more than a clever marketing claim. In a curb-height and damping review, KYB tends to make the car feel close to factory—which is usually what you want after a worn original unit. Should I replace struts in pairs?

If you're ordering parts or rebuilding a rear end, the diagram helps you separate the carrier assembly from the axle housing.

Look for the bearing cap marks in the drawing; those machined surfaces matter. The carrier itself is the assembly that sits between the left and right side bearings. I rejected a batch of stamped cover plates with a 0.8 mm off-tolerance bolt pattern because when bolted down, the carrier bearings could bind. A diagram won't fix an installation mistake, but it will help you spot the critical dimensions before you buy.

How much is a camshaft replacement?

For planning purposes, a camshaft replacement generally runs $1,200 to $2,500 at an independent shop as of early 2025 on a typical overhead-cam four-cylinder. The cam itself might be $250 to $600, but labor dominates because the shop has to remove the intake manifold, timing cover, and often the radiator for access.

People think the part is expensive. The reality is that labor and the mandatory extras—seals, timing chain tensioner, lifters, coolant—drive the bill. This is where transparent pricing matters. A shop that quotes a low headline number and adds “while we're in there” fees later is less trustworthy than one that lists everything upfront. On pushrod V8s, a cam swap is usually cheaper; on interference engines with a timing chain, it can climb past $3,000. Get a written breakdown before saying yes.

Is the Baldwin B2 oil filter worth it?

Yes, if your application guide calls for it. The Baldwin B2 oil filter is a heavy-duty spin-on filter used in automotive, diesel, agricultural, and marine applications. Baldwin's reputation comes from solid canister construction and good capacity, which is why many fleet maintenance people use it. It's not a magic filter, though; it has to be matched to your engine's thread size, bypass valve setting, and flow requirements.

Cross-reference charts cause a specific mistake: a filter physically screws on, but the bypass valve opens too early or too late. At our plant, we check incoming filter samples against the OEM specification sheet, not just the label. The B2 is a quality part when the spec sheet says it's the right one. If it's not listed, keep looking.

Why did my “OEM equivalent” part fail sooner than the original?

This is the question I wish more drivers asked before buying. It's tempting to think that if the dimensions match, the quality matches. But a replacement part could have the same length, same thread, and same rubber bushing, yet use a lower-grade steel or a shallower weld. Those differences show up in fatigue life, not in the first visual inspection.
